A pavilion that invites pause and reflection in an era of environmental urgency.
At its center, an open-to-sky void embodies time — fluid and ever-changing. Here, time is measured by the silent choreography of visitors moving around and the shifting symphony of sun, wind, light, and ambient sounds. As the day unfolds, shadows stretch and retreat, the city’s soundscape echoes through the room volumes, and fleeting moments are etched in dancing light and drifting breeze.
The structure comprises of prefabricated hempcrete panels, externally finished with blackened chalk plaster using charcoal pigment, and supported by a visible charred timber frame. This material palette reflects a sustainable ethos, merging the Danish vernacular tradition of wattle and daub with modern form through the use of ecological materials. Its design responds to the adjacent library building, echoing its dark, monolithic presence to establish visual continuity within the urban fabric. Modular and adaptable, the pavilion functions as both a contemplative space and a symbolic bridge — linking Copenhagen’s architectural heritage with its low-carbon future.
